Description

Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc. (PDS) is seeking two highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized and confident technologists for term full time positions in the Molecular Diagnostics section of our Microbiology laboratory. These positions require specific skills in molecular diagnostics, however; an individuals' interest, and capability to cross-train in other services will be considered an asset.

The skills required by this position are typically acquired through a Bachelor of Science degree or Biotechnology diploma and/or several years of experience in veterinary molecular diagnostic laboratories.

Candidates must indicate how they have acquired the following knowledge and skills:
Perform modern molecular biology techniques for veterinary pathogens, including the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment including: real time PCR thermocyclers, conventional PCR thermocyclers and gel electrophoresis equipment; applied methodologies, critical factors that affect the significance and validity of test results; be able to independently set up, configure, operate and troubleshoot the equipment listed above; logically work up novel methods for the detection of various bacterial, viral and parasitic infectious agents, using molecular methods; independently, or as part of a team, assess, plan and adjust work priorities as urgent or routine to meet required objectives, in consideration of deadlines and resource availability;

Typical hours of work are from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM and may be required to work some overtime and weekend shifts on a rotational basis.  As an expectation of this work environment you may be exposed to unknown, potentially pathogenic organisms.
