Description

Reporting to the President and Executive Council (EC) the LRO provides consultative services to members in the interpretation and application of the collective agreement (CBA), handles all aspects of rights grievances, serves as a member of the Bargaining Team, and provides research and analysis required for the support of effective bargaining strategies.

DUTIES:
Grievance Handling
Carries out initial interviews and consultations on grievances.
Provides advice for possible approaches to the resolve issues.
Prepares records and advocates member grievances up to referral to arbitration.
Works collaboratively to mediate resolutions.

Collective Bargaining
Sits on the Bargaining Committee, and assists the EC in providing direction to the committee.
Provides research/analysis/information to support effective bargaining strategies.
Maintains databases for bargaining objectives/historical comparisons.
Facilitates the proposals development process prior to collective bargaining.
Develops proposals for exchange at the bargaining table.
Prepares or assists legal counsel with interest-based arbitration.

Other Duties
Counsels members in the interpretation and application of the CBA, employer policies and relevant statutes and legislation.
Gives information to members on benefits provisions of the CBA.
Communicates with members, including preparing written material for publication.
Develops and delivers membership education programs as determined by the EC.
Conducts case-based research on grievances and historical precedents.
Maintains professional currency.
Represents the Association by attending meetings as required.
Is a non-voting member of EC.
Other related duties as assigned.
Works primarily from the Saskatoon office covering Saskatoon and PA campuses.
