Hours of work: Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with limited extended hours.
The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate the following:
- strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- strong organizational skills
- ability and experience working independently and interdependently
- knowledge and understanding of interpersonal violence and its impact on children
- current valid driver's license
- ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and a vulnerable sector check as per provincial
government regulations
Duties will include but not limited to the following:
- developing and implementing activities for resident children
- responding to the safety needs of children
- reporting the need for crisis intervention and/or referrals to the Executive Director
- documenting developmental and behavior variations
- enhancing the parent/child relationship
- reporting to counseling staff and management all concerns or observations
- responsibility for ensuring children's play area and resources are sanitized and safe
- promoting and supporting a positive self-image
NOTE: Child Care Activity Worker is not a babysitter; mothers remain at the shelter with the children
