This position is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable individual to assist with evaluating policy initiatives and implementing advocacy strategies, and holds an understanding of Indigenous governance and/or the "Nation (re)Building" model.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify and provide analysis of FHQTC, member First Nations, and Tribal Council entities issues and provide recommendations on best approaches for their resolution;
Identify and provide initiatives and advocacy implementation for strengthening Inherent, Treaty and Aboriginal rights;
Initiate a proactive approach by synthesizing current Federal and Provincial policy initiatives and positions into discussion papers that analyze and outline projected and anticipated outcomes and impacts on First Nations including their Inherent, Treaty and Aboriginal rights;
Monitor and evaluate Federal and Provincial government policy initiatives and exercise professional judgment in advising the FHQTC political and administrative offices on matters impacting relationships between FHQTC, Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments and industry and business sectors, agencies and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess post-secondary education in the social sciences, legal or related field; with a minimum five years related work experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered;
Previous knowledge and experience working with Federal and Provincial legislation, policy and initiatives impacting First Nations;
Superior writing, interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop and implement innovative and strategic priorities;
In-depth understanding of: Treaty history, First Nation-Crown Treaty relationship, its constitutional basis and appropriate policy frameworks; Indigenous governance models.
