Description

Required Immediately - Sole practitioner seeks positive and energetic legal assistant for general practice with an emphasis on family law matters. Prior experience and/or education focused on administrative skills in a legal or human services environment preferred. Hours and salary will be discussed with potential candidates. Position will be for 20 to 25 hours per week to start, with potential for full-time in the future. Compensation commensurate with experience.

Legal Assistant Duties:
Reception duties  managing office phones, fax, and email; typing; book appointments; update calendars; manage regular mail, couriers, and process servers; invoicing and basic AP/AR duties
File management - organize client files (paper and electronic), file recall
Commissioner of Oaths designation or willingness to obtain promptly
Perform corporate, land titles, court, and legal database searches and file related documents
Draft a variety of correspondence and legal documents
Prepare trial binders for court
Ability to perform basic legal research

Qualifications:
Discretion in handling confidential information
A positive attitude and passion for excellence
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
Excellent word processing, grammar, and proofreading skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to utilize technology as an aide for file and time management
Openness to continued learning and skill development
Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
EsiLaw experience an asset
