Description

Sun West School Division invites applications for an Educational Assistant in Kindersley Composite School.  This is a permanent position, 6 hours per day, 181 days per year, starting September 5, 2017.

The successful applicant will work as a collaborative member of a team (Classroom teachers, Student Support Teachers, Principal and/or other professional staff) providing assistance to teachers in the delivery and implementation of educational programs and services that facilitate the integration, growth, learning, safety and comfort of students with special needs. The successful candidate will work one-on-one with special needs students, youth with learning disabilities, those on modified and alternate programs, & those with health and behavior-related issues. The individual will assist in the classroom as well as providing pull-out support for individual or small group assistance.

The successful candidate will be required to attend to physical and cognitive needs of students as assigned, including personal care, lifting, transferring and activities as recommend by occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech and language pathologists. The successful candidate must be physically able to lift, turn, transfer and assist students as required.   Experience working with individuals with cognitive or physical limitations would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have the ability to establish rapport and maintain a calm demeanor to effectively support the needs of students. Candidates with post-secondary education in a field related, such as an Educational Assistant Certificate, would be considered an asset.

Salary & benefits for this position will be in accordance with the current Collective Agreement of CUPE Local 4802.
