Job Description: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Division of Clinical Microbiology of the Saskatoon Health Region/University of Saskatchewan seeks a full time Clinical Microbiologist. Clinical Microbiology provides full service diagnostic testing in bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology and has a comprehensive molecular diagnostics program. The program is currently undergoing modernization and has 2 MALDI-TOF instruments and front end specimen processing automation for clinical service and research. The Clinical Microbiology laboratory is a fully centralized service providing diagnostic testing for Saskatoons 3 acute care hospitals, Long Term Care and community based physicians with daily specimen volumes ranging from 900-1400. Additionally, the service provides reference testing and consultation for laboratories in rural Saskatchewan. The successful applicant would join a team of 2 other Medical/Clinical Microbiologists in setting clinical direction and oversight for the program along with on call service and clinical consultation and our resident training programs including coordination of the clinical microbiology component of the General Pathology Resident Program. Clinical staff are expected to participate in day to day operations of the laboratory.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree with relevant specialty training in Clinical Microbiology and certification (or eligibility for certification within 3 years) by the Canadian College of Microbiologists (or equivalent). The successful candidate requires membership with the Saskatoon Health Region Practitioner Staff. A faculty appointment with the University of Saskatchewan is encouraged.
