The Global Gathering Place is seeking a part-time ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor.
Qualifications:
University Degree, minimum CERTESL certificate or equivalent, and teaching experience
Extensive knowledge of the theory, practices, and strategies for teaching adult learners
Special skills in communicating with and motivating ESL students
In-depth knowledge of the needs and issues facing new learners
Demonstrated experience in working with newcomers from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated experience in program development and working with volunteers
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and Portfolio Based Language Learning Assessment (PBLA)
Excellent computer skills: MS office, Internet
Excellent communication and team skills
Excellent interpersonal administrative skills: lesson plans, attendance records, monthly reports, and meeting deadlines
Duties:
Prepare and deliver lesson plans/curriculum material and other ESL program-related tasks
Prepare and submit statistical and progress reports as per program requirements
Take daily student attendance, maintain student documentation and perform data entry
Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services
Gather materials to support language-learning and provide resources for students
Participate in regular level and team meetings
Evaluate program delivery and make recommendations on an ongoing basis
In collaboration with the ESL Coordinator, arrange for a substitute for missed classes
Collaborate with other Global Gathering Place staff to resolve student issues and concerns
Keep the classroom neat and organized
Perform other duties as assigned
