Description

We are currently hiring energetic mentors who will provide support services to identified children/youth. Mentors are contracted to work with individual children/youth for 10-12 hours per month. Depending on the needs of the child, the time is designated to one-on-one service and/or small group activities. Mentors can have more than 1 mentee on their case-load.

Duties & Responsibilities
Mentors perform a variety of duties with the focus of their responsibility being child-centered. Some of the duties include:
Coaching and reinforcing appropriate pro-social skill development
Coaching and reinforcing appropriate self-regulation skills
Be an agent for child participation in positive leisure, recreation, cultural, and social activities
Facilitating expansion of social support network for the child/youth
Positive role modeling
Adherence to YMCA Child Protection Policies & Procedures
Ensures compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements
Previous successful experience working with high risk children/youth between the ages of 5 and 22 years
Knowledge of child development issues
Knowledge of environmental risk factors
Knowledge of local community resources
Knowledge and experience in behaviour management
Some post-secondary education in an area of human services is preferred.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Access to a vehicle and ability to travel
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date.
Drivers License Clearance
Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete and pass the YMCA Child Protection training
