Job Description: The Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is accountable for overall direction, coordination, evaluation, planning and general logistics for the safe and effective operation of the Emergency Medical Services System consistent with the Mission Statement, Philosophy and goals and objective of the Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority (KYRHA). The Director is also responsible for Emergency Preparedness, Pandemic Planning and the Medical Transportation Program for the region.

The Director is accountable for risk management, quality improvement and employee and patient safety within the Emergency Medical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Minimum EMT,EMT  A, (Paramedic preferred)
Demonstrated Knowledge of EMS issues
Management experience  within a unionized environment
In car experience as an EMT or higher
Demonstrated application and /or Proficient in software programs including EMS related, but not limited to Microsoft.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong Inter-personal skills
Experience working in a cross cultural setting is desirable
Must be bondable

Education & experience

Post secondary management  education in a health related discipline (i.e. Human Resources, Finance and/or EMS)
EMT, EMT-Advanced or EMT-Paramedic certificate
Minimum 5 years experience in EMS Management
Training in Emergency Preparedness Planning
