Job Description:
Above and Beyond Autism Consulting Services (ABACS) is recruiting Support Workers to work in-home with a teen with autism. The Support Worker works one-to-one morning and after school shifts MondayFriday. The parents and other caregivers provide training on-site. Experience dealing with problematic behaviours relating to autism and understanding of epileptic seizures protocol will be an asset.
Duties:
Working as part of a team, Support Workers are responsible for the daily living skills of the individual including bathroom routines, snack/drink preparation and other activities to engage the individual's time. Each Support Worker is responsible for all regular morning/after school routines (including safely escorting to/from school transportation each day) as outlined by the parents other caregivers. In addition, the Support Worker will be responsible for interactions, communication and leisure time (looking at books, interactive play, watching TV, walks, etc.). Support Workers work closely with the family to provide a safe and supportive environment for the individual.
Requirements:
-Applicants must be outgoing, enthusiastic, and dependable, possess strong organizational skills and be willing to learn techniques related to autism, problematic behaviours, seizures and the individual
-Ability to communicate effectively with the parents and other team members
-Applicants with an understanding of ASD and knowledge of seizure procedures are preferred but not essential
-Criminal Record Check required
-First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
-Support Workers report directly to parents
