Main Duties
The Special Education Consultant, under supervision of the Associate Director of Education, will have duties that include:
- Providing second level services including workshops and training opportunities to special education coordinators and teachers, resource room teachers, regular classroom teachers, teacher assistants and education administrators in the following areas:
- Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) development
- Individual and classroom consultation for adaptations and modifications for students with special needs
- Special education assessment programming
- Interpreting reports and recommendations from other professionals involved in the assessment and designation of students with special needs
- Participation and facilitation of school based team meetings
- Collaboration with RMO special education staff
- Responding to requests from outside agencies for special education support
- School consultation in the pre-referral process
- Special education best practices programming
- Participation and facilitation of special education Focus Group meetings
- Participation in other education projects when requested through PAGC
This position also requires participation and facilitation in conferences that are relevant to special education for personal professional development. Due to the high volume of students within PAGC who have been identified as Targeted Behavior, the special education consultant position has been expanded this school year to include providing supports to several students with identifiable behavior disorders.
Assets:
- Bachelor of Education degree, Masters degree preferred.
- 5 years teaching experience in a special education capacity
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Proven ability to work with PAGC First Nations communities and schools
- Knowledge of PAGC First Nations communities, schools and leadership
