The City of Moose Jaw is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as our City Council Support. Reporting to the Assistant City Clerk, the City Council Support, while working in a team environment, performs administrative and clerical duties while maintaining consistent practices to ensure the Corporation adheres to its legislative responsibilities, particularly with respect to analysis of legislations, bylaws, policies and procedures. The City Council Support also serves as the Associate Returning Officer during municipal elections; coordinates, prepares and distributes City Council and Standing Committees agendas and packages; researches and prepares correspondence, reports, briefs and notices in accordance with Departmental policy and practice and maintains a permanent and public record of all bylaws of the City. If you have the following qualifications, this opportunity will be of interest to you:
- Completion of a post-secondary administration course
- Certificate in Local Government Administration, along with 3 years experience in a municipal environment, including bylaws
- Accurate typing skills of 55 words per minute
- Thorough knowledge of the organization, policies, regulations and functions of City Council, including the Citys various boards, commissions and other committees
- Working knowledge of parliamentary procedures and municipal processes
- Working knowledge of The Cities Act, The Local Government Election Act, 2015, the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Planning and Development Act, 2007.
- Highly proficient in computer applications
- Strong clerical and organizational skills, including working knowledge of general office procedures
- Proven interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication skills
- Skilled in report writing and preparing agendas for use by City Council and various City committees
