The Communications Advisor is part of the Policy and Communications team, but provides support to all SUMA's departments. Through knowledge of and ability to work with the media, SUMA members, and all orders of government, the Communications Advisor helps advance SUMAs goals. Reporting to the Director of Policy and Communications, this position works under tight deadlines and adjusting tasks to meet changing priorities
Key Responsibilities:
- Help identify and assess strategic communication issues and trends in the urban municipal sector.
- Prepare and distribute SUMA communications.
- Provide service and expertise to other SUMA departments and the Board, including promotion, marketing, and support for SUMA events, such as our annual convention.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Degree/diploma in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or related discipline
- Experience reporting to a board, or working for any order of government
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and planning skills
- Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
- Website content management experience
- Proficient in MS Office suite and Adobe software
- Personable and able to build and maintain professional relationships
- Driven, self-motivated, self-directed
- Ability to work to a high standard with minimal supervision
