An Emergency Management Organization (EMO) Co-ordinator is required for the Joint Venture Emergency Management Organization (JVEMO). This is an appointed and paid position.
The JVEMO area consists of the RM of Torch River, Village of White Fox, Town of Choiceland and the Village of Smeaton.
The Community Emergency Coordinator is a key position in the municipal emergency program. He/She is responsible for developing and maintaining an emergency program for the community. This program must consist of an emergency plan that meets the mandated requirements set out by the Joint Venture Emergency Measures Organization; this plan must be maintained.
The Coordinator is responsible to develop a training and education program for key players within the communities, usually consisting of the elected officials, first responders, operational staff and volunteers. The final step in the program responsibilities is to exercise the emergency plan through a series of exercises designed to test the plan and people.
The Emergency Coordinator must possess strong communication skills, be a leader, able to work with the elected officials as well as volunteers. This person must be able to work well under stress and be able to manage a team within an emergency operations centre in times of an emergency. Previous training in emergency would be an asset.
