ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
*Lay out, prepare and assemble structural steel, containers and miscellaneous components. Use different welding processes and fillers depending on the type of metal, its size and shape requirements for finished product strength
*Fabricate structural components for buildings and other load carrying structures
*Review drawings and discuss them with the customer or with management
*Plan the sequence of tasks and decide how to cut fabricate the steel most efficiently
*Determine the materials required and obtain them from stock
*Ability to use a cutting torch, plasma cutter and gouger
*Develop and or mark patterns if required
*Use metal-working machines required and obtain them from stock
*Assemble and fit metal sections and plates together to form complete units or sub-units
*Fasten components together & weld
*Understand and follow procedures for drills, saws and punch press
*Understand and follow procedures for jib cranes and overhead cranes
*Other duties as necessary

PREFERRED SKILLS
2+ years of experience    
Strength and stamina
Good coordination, mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity
Ability to work in close quarters
Weight Handling: Up to 40 pounds
Physically demanding, Attention to detail, Hand-eye co-ordination
Reading prints, text, Numeracy, Oral communication Working with others, Problem-solving, Decision making
Candidate must pay attention to detail and be able to work independently

 

Skills and Abilities

Additional Skills
 - Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes
 - Polish sheet metal
Specific Skills
 - Prepare jigs or set-ups for welding
 - Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
 - Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing and soldering equipment
 - Interpret welding process specifications
 - Fit, braze and torch-straighten metal
 - Determine weldability of materials
