This is a position of considerable responsibility working in a specialized therapeutic preschool for children with communication and behavior/communication problems and for their families. The applicant would work as part of a multidisciplinary professional team initially under the supervision of the Professional Staff Team. The job involves planning for the offering developmentally appropriate therapeutic and pre-academic experiences daily to individual and small groups of children with complex needs. This is a confidential position requiring a high degree of professionalism and responsibility.
Duties:
A) Learn the philosophy of methods used at SCEP CENTRE
B) Participate and work collaboratively with the Professional Team in general program planning
C) Under the guidance of Senior Staff foster the development of social and communication skills and provide remedial therapeutic experience
D) Prepare notes on children?s program and progress and to discuss needs/progress with other staff daily and at staff meetings
E) Keep current on developments in the field and read professional material as recommended by the Executive Director
F) Participate in general program housekeeping and clean-up duties
Skills:
-Develop displays (bulletin boards; art activities)
-Plan and supervise excursions for the children into the community
-Participate in fundraising activities, occasionally outside of regular hours
-Other various duties assigned by the Executive Director
Education: Degree or diploma in early childhood, nursing or a university degree in psychology, education, social work, or the social sciences.
Experience: Experience working with young children in a child-centered play-based setting or with families with young children. Criminal record & vulnerable sector check required with First Aid certificate and 3 or more references (character and job related).
