Description

This position is a permanent continuing position. A library technician diploma is required.

Responsibilities:
-Supervise service area & staff as necessary
-Provides reference service
-Responsible for original & copy cataloguing of materials
-Responsible for maintaining & editing existing item & bibliographic records
-Responsible for assigned collection development & maintenance duties
-Reconciles & prepares weekly cash deposits
-Performs additional tasks as required

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
- Must have library technician diploma
- Proven ability to accurately catalogue using MARC & AACR2; thorough knowledge of DDC, standard subject cataloguing, & authority control
-Proven ability to provide courteous & friendly public service
-Proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team, or independently
-Ability to effectively instruct, organize, motivate & supervise staff
-Ability to organize time and activities, to exercise independent judgment & initiative within established guidelines, & to meet deadlines, & assume responsibility
-Above average verbal & written communication skills, ability to provide instruction to the public
-Thorough knowledge of public library policies, routines & procedures, & the ability to communicate them to patrons & staff members
-Training in library resources & collections, current affairs, public library philosophy, & the provincial library network; & the ability to promote the Library
-Skilled in the use of electronic resources, including library & office software

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
-Some experience/training in public speaking & with development & delivery of programming
-Work experience with automated library systems
-Technical or commercial courses in office software, desktop publishing, & the Internet
-Some supervisory experience or courses.
-Knowledge of, or background in a specific subject or topic
-Valid drivers license
