The Science Educator is responsible for:
- Animals The lead in the care and wellbeing of the Science Centre resident animals. This includes all aspects of animal health, maintains enclosures and following all provincial guidelines.
- Take appropriate precautions when dealing with animals. This means they are required to get rabies vaccinations which are paid for by the employer.
- Maintain a clean environment for all resident animals which includes regular feeding, cleaning and maintenance of all animal enclosures
- Responsible for the application and maintenance of all provincial licensing for the resident animals.
- In charge of training and supervising all staff responsible for animal care and handling.
- Maintain the health of the animals which includes regular communication with the veterinarian and other animal professionals.
- Work with the exhibit maintenance team to ensure that animal enclosures are in good condition and if they need any repairs.
- Researching and developing exhibits on biodiversity, environmental science and climate science.
- Highlighting innovations in the field of environmental science, conservation and biology.
- Leadership. Supervising, coaching, and developing a positive attitude in staff, as well as implementing training in animal handling and care.
- In addition the Science Educator will continually upgrade their knowledge in animal care practices.
