Description

In this position and under the general supervision of the Senior Irrigation District Manager, the successful candidate will perform operation and maintenance of the irrigation water delivery infrastructure for the irrigation projects owned by the Ministry of Agriculture in accordance with established industry and regulatory standards and procedures including: electrical repairs and installations; perform start up and shut down of the water delivery systems; perform field investigations to monitor and identify maintenance requirements; respond to operational issues as requested by clients and management. Working overtime is a requirement.  

You will have knowledge of:
** Water distribution systems including operation and maintenance procedures for diverse pipelines, pumps and control valves
** Electrical systems including installation and repairs
**Occupational Health & Safety certification (safe trenching, confined space entry, pesticide application)
**Irrigation requirements of clients in order to operate the system in an efficient manner

You will have demonstrated ability to:
** Actively listen to, acknowledge concerns and respond appropriately to stakeholders/contractors/co-workers/members of the public
** Consistently plan, organize and prioritize urgent or routine work taking into consideration task complexity, conflicting deadlines and multiple reporting relationships
** Collect analyze and keep current on relevant data and technological advances to make accurate and timely decisions on a variety of operational issues and procedures
** Identify areas for improvement by analyzing problems and recommending solutions that contribute to the development of new methods or approaches to improve work processes and systems

Typically this knowledge would be attained through a Diploma in Water Resources Engineering Technology or a similar technical discipline and Journeyman Electrician status or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
