This position will support research in the areas of plant development, quantitative image-based phenotyping methods, genetic and molecular analyses towards gene discovery for crop improvement. The position will support the generation and analyses of large phenotyping datasets from the model plant Arabidopsis and defined populations developed in crop species including canola and wheat. The position provides the opportunity to conduct high-throughput plant phenotyping at the internationally renowned Jlich Plant Phenotyping Centre. The Research Assistant will also assist in the application of genetic and genomics analyses to evaluate performance associated traits including crop architecture, photosynthesis, water and nutrient use efficiency. The research activities and responsibilities of this position also include the generation and analyses of transcriptome datasets and their application in QTL mapping and discovery of associated gene targets. This involves evaluating current software for the integration, storage, analysis and interpretation of next generation DNA sequence data and where necessary assisting other researchers and collaborating scientists to achieve project goals.
