Primary Purpose: To perform a wide range of activities associated with the efficient functioning of the University of Saskatchewan Beef Cattle Research & Teaching Unit. The position will transfer to the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence Beef Cattle Research & Teaching Unit located near Clavet, SK effective April 1, 2018.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Animal Technician Supervisor, this position performs duties related to feeding and caring for beef cattle, facility maintenance, and equipment maintenance and repair associated with the unit. This position performs duties related to forage, bedding, and annual crop production. This position also provides oversight and support for animal care as well as performs duties related to facility maintenance, animal handling, forage processing, and feed and manure handling in the metabolism barn. Assisting with research and student training is required. It involves lifting and moving of heavy feed and other supplies. Working in a facility with large animals, the incumbent is exposed to animal dander, feed and bedding dust, waste and unpredictable animal behavior. Irregular hours of work are required, including weekends, unsocial hours and overtime during peak times throughout the year.
