Wanuskewin Heritage Park is accepting applications for temporary full time Interpretive Guides from May through August. The position will include the following accountabilities:
- Contributes to a welcoming environment for all Wanuskewin visitors and guests with a focus on service excellence
- Ensures park visitors are informed and equipped with information about trail routes, programs, regulations, and issues or concerns related to health and safety.
- Accurately tracks all visitors into the park POS/database
- Recommends and actively supports the development and implementation of all programming including demonstrations, workshops, interpretation of Plains Indigenous Cultures, natural history and ecological features, exhibits, displays and artifacts.
- Determine and apply a variety of heritage presentation and interpretation techniques in the development of meaningful, captivating and enjoyable presentations, non-personal interpretive products and demonstrations.
- Participates in the delivery of programming through interpretation, storytelling, etc., both on-site and off.
- Provides recommendations to enhance heritage presentations and interpretive programs.
- Adapts presentations to meet specific audience requirements.
- Ensures ongoing maintenance of the trails, visitor areas and interactive exhibits.
- Ensures excellence in the stewardship of all resources.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Post-secondary education in hospitality, tourism, education, biology, archaeology, natural history, social work or First Nations studies is required. Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and traditions and previous experience conducting presentations is preferred.
