The City of Yorkton, through assistance from the Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program, will be reorganizing a portion of its historical archives. The summer position will run from May 7, 2018 until August 24, 2018.
The City of Yorkton requires a summer archives assistant to work under the supervision and direction of the Heritage Researcher.
Duties:
Assist with appraisal and selection, arrangement and descriptive work on the images portion of the Avalon fund
Along with the Heritage Researcher, conduct a general survey of images
Write descriptions and enter these descriptions in archives databases
Preventative conservation of a varied collection
Data entry into the collection database
Entry of photographs into the collections storage area
Planning and preparation of external local history exhibits
Compile end-of-project reports with recommendations for future work
Qualifications:
Education minimum grade 12
Individual pursuing post-secondary education, preferably in archival, library or information studies
Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance;
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Can complete some physical labour
Good communication skills
Hours of Work and Salary:
This position is Monday-Friday 8:00-4:00 (36 hours/week). Rate of pay is $14.43/hour.
