Description

Summer Day Camp staff work to provide children with positive opportunities during the summer season building skills in children, youth and teens of all abilities.
The YMCA Summer Day Camp Wilderness Coordinator will work directly with Day Camp administration to provide a summer camp experience which includes three days of day camp and two nights of camping in a natural location in or near Regina. The majority of the responsibilities will be creating, preparing for, and leading these camp weeks. The remainder of your time will be spent helping to facilitate recreational games, crafts and cultural activities for youth ages 6-12, of all abilities, in our YMCA Summer Day Camp.
Duties and Expectations:
The Wilderness Coordinator is responsible to undertake all necessary actions in order for the summer program and relevant camping components to operate efficiently. This will include, but shall not be limited to:
Planning and execution of camping trips (including all equipment, transportation, logistics, budgeting, etc.)
Facilitate wilderness skills development activities
Build positive relationships with camp staff, campers and their parents
Uphold the safety and well-being of all campers
Be a strong leader, mentor and role model for all campers and staff
Support staff in the YMCA Inclusion Day Camp
Skills Required:
The successful candidate will exhibit a high level of organizational aptitude and creativity
Experience leading youth in wilderness camping trips
Ability to understand program objectives and implement programming that reflects program goals
Strong leadership skills and proven ability to build relationships
Strong organizational skills, able to set program priorities, handle several tasks at once and adapt to changes
Able to effectively communicate with camp staff, campers
A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle is mandatory for this position
First Aid/CPR C
