Description

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Branch Manager, or her/his designate, the GVRS Culture and Recreation Caseworker will assist in cultural programming and recreational activities for clients in the GVRS program. The GVRS Cultural/Recreation Caseworker will provide direct services for hard to serve clients in the program as well as in the community.

Duties:
In the field work with the clients in the program, including:
- Make the necessary services as easily accessible as possible for clients in the program
- Liaise with Elders in the community to develop cultural programming for clients in the program
- Promote positive independent problem solving and decision making skills

Assist in case management and support for clients in the program, including:
- Provide stabilization crisis support
- Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support to youth
Refer clients to support services with other agencies

Knowledge:
- An understanding and commitment to the vision, mission, and core values of the John Howard Society.
- A familiarity with the problems and characteristics of disadvantaged persons.
- A familiarity with gangs in Prince Albert.
- A familiarity of the traditions, culture, and practices of Indigenous people.

Qualifications:
- University Bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy, Indigenous Education or in other related culture and recreation programs
- Minimum of one year experience working with individuals involved in the justice system
- Valid Saskatchewan drivers license.
- Clean Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check
