Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Branch Manager (Prince Albert), or her designate, the Community Alternative to Remand Caseworker will assist in providing a community alternative to individuals who would otherwise be involved in short-term municipal police, RCMP or other custody cells.
Duties:
- Support individuals in finding immediate stable housing as well as longer term sustainable housing
- Provide stabilization & crisis support
- Implement case plans and monitor outcomes
- Make referrals to other professionals as necessary
- Partner with local agencies to develop responsive support for individuals
- Provide advocacy services or teach self-advocacy to individuals
- Support clients in maintaining compliance with their legal conditions while in the community (including attending scheduled court appearances)
- Maintain confidentiality
Qualifications:
- University Bachelors degree in the Human Services sector
- Minimum one year work experience in a residential setting, with experience in intensive case management
- Compliance with the designated Risk Management policies of the National John Howard Society
- First Aid and CPR
- A valid drivers license
- Clean Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check
Knowledge:
- An understanding and commitment to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the John Howard Society
- A familiarity with the problems and characteristics of disadvantaged persons
- A strong understanding of the justice system
- Possess a working knowledge of crisis intervention theory and practice
