Description

The Weyburn Public Library branch is looking for a student in the field of education (early childhood education or related field) in order to coordinate the TD Bank Summer Reading Program (SRP) for 2021. The student will work closely with the Childrens Programmer and will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and co-ordination of the annual TD Summer Reading Program whose purpose is to promote literacy to Weyburn and area students aged 5 -12 during the summer months. The selected student will be working 35 hours a week from June 7th to August 25th and will be paid $14.50 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A post-secondary student studying education, early childhood education or another related field
A desire to gain experience in the field of education
Desire to help children explore the wonderful world of reading
Capable of both organizing and running regular Childrens Summer Reading programming
Comfortable engaging and building partnerships with local community groups
Strong technology skills in order to provide a variety of virtual programming options
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Ability to work as a team player
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Enjoy working with youngsters from 5 to 12 years old
Ability to work within a budget
Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Actively promote the WPL Summer Reading Program throughout the community
Work with the Childrens Programmer to design and implement a successful Summer Reading Program
Meet with various library staff members as a team when needed
Implement and run STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities for ages 5-12 (set-up, clean up etc.)
Help with outreach and encourage partnerships with various community groups
Keep accurate statistics for all Summer Reading Programming
Other duties as required
