Description

The Ministry of Highways is looking for a resourceful Manufacturing Engineer with good communication skills to support the Ministrys internal manufacturing program headquartered in Prince Albert.

The manufacturing program includes Final Stage Manufacturing of tandem snow plows, pavement marking stripers, and sign trucks from incomplete vehicle chassis that are sourced from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). It also includes fabrication of ancillary attachments and modification of vehicles used to perform other specialty activities. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the interpretation of and compliance with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) and other regulations pertinent to the manufacturing program.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Provincial Operational Services, the Manufacturing Engineer performs engineering services for the manufacturing and new equipment certification program; interprets and ensures compliance with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) and other federal and provincial legislative and regulatory requirements; and maintains a protocol for documentation necessary to properly affix the National Safety Mark as authorized by Transport Canada.

The successful candidate will have a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in providing mechanical engineering support for equipment used in roadway construction and maintenance; knowledge and skill in applying specialized engineering computer software relating to solid modeling and geometric element analysis (GEA) for the purpose of mechanical engineering design and analysis of equipment or related components; and a thorough understanding of CMVSS.
