SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The position of Community Mental Health Therapist is responsible to work with the Members for the community-based addiction prevention, intervention and public education services. This position is jointly focused on community-based programming and client referral services.
The Community Mental Health Therapist will be under the direct supervision of the Health Director, reports to the Health Committee and is accountable to the Kahkewistahaw First Nation Chief and Council.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Develop and implement a community-based mental health plan that is focused on the education/prevention/treatment of drugs, alcohol and solvent abuse, including workshops, public meetings and preparing proposals for funding of these activities.
2.    Provide culturally appropriate and specific individual, family and group therapy, providing referrals to appropriate agencies.
3.    Consult with the Health Director regarding services of mental health services regarding        
the mental health needs of the community and ensure promotion and education is
presented in a culturally sensitive manner.
4.    Establish and maintain a reporting system, which outlines client services and utilizations, referrals and maintain this system according to confidentiality principles.
5.    Conduct and/or organize community workshops addressing a variety of topics relating to the prevention and intervention of harmful lifestyles and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
6.    Provide after-care support for clients during the post treatment phase, including counseling, home visits and referrals to other appropriate services both within and outside of the immediate community.
7.    Ensure that adequate transportation is available for clients to and from treatment centers.
8.    Any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
