NLSD #113 invites applications for A FIRST NATIONS AND METIS CONSULTANT
This position will be based out of either La Ronge central office or Beauval sub-office. The position requires travel throughout the school division to provide support in NLSD schools.
Duties include:
- Promote and support Cree, Dene and Michif language programming in the schools.
- Evaluate Cree, Dene and Michif language resources and help plan for the preservation of school division Indigenous Language resources.
- Coordinate teacher in-services for Indigenous Languages, promotion of Treaty and Metis Education and other FNMI initiatives, as needed.
- Promote initiatives related to the implementation of the TRC recommendations and 94 Calls to Action.
- Promote Elders engagement and land-based programming in schools and help to establish a division-wide Elders Advisory Council.
- Perform other activities that may be assigned by the Superintendent of Learning.
The successful candidate will have:
- The ability to work in a collegial environment with adjunct institutional partners.
- Fluency in either Cree, Dene or Michif language; written and spoken.
- Experience in teaching the Cree, Dene and/or the Michif language.
- Familiarity with the Standard Roman Orthography.
- The ability to work as a creative and self-motivated staff member.
- Familiarity with second language learning teaching strategies and processes.
- Knowledge about the curriculum renewal process as outlined by the Ministry of Education.
A Master of Education degree would be an asset. Salary will be according to the Provincial grid plus a 10% consultants allowance.
