Job Description: 1 -   DENTAL THERAPIST PART-TIME


APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE SERVICES OF A PART-TIME DENTAL THERAPIST FOR THE ATHABASCA HEALTH AUTHORITY (AHA).

SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Dental Program Coordinator, the Dental Therapist combines the knowledge and skills to provide and promote quality oral health care and service.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Dental therapists work as part of a team providing clinical and educational support to children and adults in the community.  Our dental therapists carry out straightforward clinical work, under the direction and written prescription of a dentist.  General duties could include:

"    removing plaque and other coatings, such as calculus     
"    polishing teeth
"    applying antibacterial and de-sensitizing agents     
"    tooth whitening
"    applying fissure sealants and fluorides     
"    taking radiographs
"    replacing temporary fillings and crowns     
"    carrying out simple fillings
"    administering certain types of local anesthetic, unsupervised.
"    extracting deciduous (milk) teeth

QUALIFICATIONS:
"    Two-year post-secondary diploma in dental therapy with satisfactory completion of academic, preclinical and clinical components
"    Post graduate orthodontic modules
"    Current registration with Saskatchewan Dental Therapists Association and Canadian Dental Therapist Association
"    A valid drivers license

EXPERIENCES:
"    experience in a cross-cultural setting preferred
"    clinical experience preferred
