Job Description: The midwife is a person who has acquired the requisite qualifications to be registered and/or legally licensed to practise midwifery in Saskatchewan.  She is able to give necessary care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct deliveries on her own responsibility, and to care for the infant and the mother.  This care includes preventative measures, the detection of abnormal conditions in the mother and child, accessing medical assistance when necessary, and taking emergency measures in the absence of medical help.  The midwife has an important task in health promotion, counselling and education, not only for the woman but also for the family and the community.  Midwifery is traditionally holistic, combining an understanding of the social, emotional, cultural, spiritual, psychological and physical aspects of a woman's reproductive experience.
Required Qualifications

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
CPR certification
Valid driver's licence and access to a personal motor vehicle for transportation related to Region business
Graduate of an educational program approved by the Saskatchewan College of Midwives (Transitional Council).
Current active practising registration with Saskatchewan College of Midwives (Transitional Council).
Experience
Previous experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team is an asset.
Previous experience working with multicultural and disadvantaged populations is an asset.
