Description

The Advocate for Children and Youth is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan and is non-partisan, objective and independent of the government of the day. The office engages in advocacy, investigations, and public education and undertakes research to promote better outcomes for children and youth in the Province of Saskatchewan.

Reporting to the Deputy Advocate and the Advocate for Children and Youth (Advocate) this position is responsible for ensuring that all investigation services, systemic advocacy and research projects are conducted in a timely and fair manner and in accordance with both The Advocate for Children and Youth Act and with the Advocates Foundational Principles: Saskatchewan Children and Youth First Principles, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Touchstones of Hope. This position ensures that services are undertaken through non-adversarial means on behalf of children and youth on systemic, social and public policy issues identified through community complaints/referrals, individual and group advocacy, investigation cases or issues raised by the Advocate for Children and Youth on his/her own initiative. This position takes a diplomatic and non-adversarial approach.

Based in Saskatoon, this position requires candidates to have a University degree in a related field.  To qualify, you will possess the appropriate behavioral, technical skills, and competencies commensurate with the responsibilities of this position as demonstrated in your application.
