Working six hours per week, the itinerant language tutor is responsible to travel throughout the northeast region to support newcomers who do not have the necessary skills and/or mobility to attend regularly scheduled classes on our three main campuses. Focus will be placed on English language development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, for enrollment in online classes and for improving engagement with the local community, and labour market. In addition, the tutor will support the development of digital literacy skills necessary for participating in online programming. During a time of social distancing, the tutor must be flexible to provide tutor support via distance using technology best suited to the learners abilities and needs. The tutor will access lessons on Moodle or will use lessons and materials prepared or suggested by the Lead ESL instructor. Pending the number of learners in a community, and the geographical distance between learners, the tutor service may be weekly or bi-weekly with individuals or small groups of learners. Contract hours include meetings and professional development. Note: A mandatory ESL staff meeting will be scheduled in August.
Required Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or a combination of education and experience with a minimum of 2 years of facilitating and/or tutoring with preference for ESL experience and CERTESL certification.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check will be required
