Description

Brief description of position and responsibilities:
This position works with 2nd year students at our Swift Current satellite and includes support of theory, labs, simulation, clinical skill demonstration/observation, learner assessment, and significant time is spent supervising students during clinical practice education experiences (both instructor and preceptor led).
The incumbent will facilitate core competencies required of RPNs and therefore a background and certification in psychiatric nursing is required. The incumbent works very independently (with support available) and requires advanced counselling and strong clinical /procedural skills to support students in community and acute mental health settings.
Travel to and supervision within clinical sites will be required.

Qualifications for the position:
1. Baccalaureate Degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing, or a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with a degree in a related field.
2. Eligible for registration with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association of Saskatchewan.
3. Minimum of two years recent and relevant clinical/teaching experience with a focus on mental health.
4. Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
5. Effective interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
6. Effective instructional ability.
7. Ability to apply the theory, practices and principles of psychiatric nursing, medical nursing, and adult education.
8. Small group facilitation skills and leading, modeling and teaching interaction skills.
9. Ability to arrange, maintain and evaluate resources.
10. Understanding of copyright process.
11. Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
12. Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
13. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
