Job Purpose: The Library Technician is responsible for processing, cataloguing and classifying library resources, maintenance and support for the integrated library system, and school support for library programs. Library Technicians assigned to a school will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to day operations of the school library as outlined in the Library Assistant job description. The regional library model envisions a team of library technicians who provide support, guidance, and professional development to library assistants throughout the school division.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of generally accepted cataloguing principles and standards
High proficiency in use of a library automated system, and experience working with a union catalogue.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
Proven written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism.
Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.
Qualifications:
Certificate or Diploma in library and/or information technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
Working knowledge in the use of computers and software such as Microsoft Office applications and all components of an automated library system (Circulation, OPAC, Report Tool, Inventory, Catalogue)
Minimum of 3 years related experience
Working Conditions:
As per Conditions of Employment (non-union)
7.5 hours per day, 10 months per year
Commencing August 25, 2021
Salary Range: $24.91 - $29.15 per hour
Limited travel within the school division may be required
Ability to perform regular physical exertion including frequently carrying objects up to 30 lbs., and up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects such as weight bearing carts
