Job Description: The Dental Health Educator is primarily responsible for assessing the oral health needs of the community and for coordinating, planning, implementing and evaluating population based oral health programs, which are directed towards health promotion and disease prevention for the area. This position reports to the Primary Health Care Manager.  The Dental Health Educator performs effective health education by working co-operatively with health staff, teachers, community colleges, community groups and the general public. Evening and weekend work may be required on occasion.
Required Qualifications

Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Dental Therapists Association
Valid Drivers License
Graduate from an approved dental therapy or the dental nursing program
Experience
Two (2) or more years of related experience which includes experience in health promotion and health education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to competently use computers and software applications as required by the position
Knowledge of the relationship between oral health and overall health
Knowledge of current scientific information/research/best practice in oral health and other related health issues
Ability to interact with clients, parents, health professionals, and community leaders/groups in a positive and culturally appropriate manner
Ability to diagnose dental decay/abscesses and identify oral abnormalities
Advanced knowledge of population health promotion approaches, community development, behavioral change models, program planning and evaluation,
