Description

Haven Family Connections strives to provide preventative support to families who are at-risk of losing custody of their children. We work from a family-centred, harm reduction perspective that prioritizes the parent/child relationship and recognizes the impact of historic trauma on families.  

The Haven Family Support program is an in-home support program for families who are struggling to overcome barriers to their success.  We seek to support parents through increasing parenting skills and advocacy in order to reduce family breakup.  We are currently seeking one full-time Family Support worker for  6-12 month term position, with the possibility of extension.  Family Support workers are responsible for providing education, guidance, coaching and skill development to parents through regular home visits (currently remote visiting).

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in child development, non-physical discipline, harm reduction and trauma informed care. This position requires exceptional communication skills, and demonstrated ability in case documentation and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of traditional Indigenous parenting;
Bachelor of Social Work or minimum of 2 years post-secondary education in a related field;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Competency in computer skills;
Familiarity with systemic barriers faced by vulnerable families;
Knowledge of and belief in harm reduction philosophies;
Knowledge of positive parenting theory;
Frontline experience working with vulnerable families or children

The successful candidate will have availability Monday  Friday; 8am to 6 pm and have the use of a personal vehicle.  Criminal Record Check, vulnerable sector is required.
