We are currenting recruiting for an Elder to work as part of a team dedicated to the treatment and success of youth in our care. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor or designate, the Elder is responsible for providing spiritual and cultural care and mentorship to clients and their families while ensuring strict confidentiality, and that WBTC policies and procedures are adhered to. The Elder establishes responsive, sensitive, and consultative relationships that enable trust and healing among peoples of very diverse world views and approaches to health and healing. The Elder will be respectful of all cultures, traditions, and religions.
The Elder is also responsible for: providing understanding, empathy, respect, and compassion, for clients and families with many diverse and complicated circumstances; developing an understanding of complex and difficult client needs and find ways to work with staff to develop culturally appropriate care plans; facilitating and providing ceremonies and cultural events; providing learning opportunities about Indigenous Culture, utilizing traditional medicine and ceremony to assist with the healing process during treatment; and assisting other staff in developing a culturally appropriate aftercare plan for clients based on the beliefs, traditions, and/or religion of the client.
Minimal Requirements: Traditionally learned understanding of Indigenous cultural beliefs, values, customs, traditions, healing ways, ceremonies, traditional medicines, and protocols. Two years of experience as an Elder and working with Indigenous communities. Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check. Valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable means of getting to work.
