Wanuskewin is seeking a motivated individual to join our dynamic team as Cultural Program Development Intern for the upcoming fall and winter on a Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program grant.
Centered around our mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of the evolving cultures of the Northern Plains Indigenous peoples, Wanuskewin offers a variety of educational programs about the Plains region, cultures, archaeology, history, arts, and traditions to visitors of all ages throughout the year.
This full time term position will include the following accountabilities:
- The candidate must be a graduate from a post-secondary institution with a degree or the equivalent of in education, indigenous studies, program development, or other related fields.
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
- are unemployed or underemployed;
- are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Plains Indigenous cultures and traditions as well as previous experience conducting presentations is required.
- Previous experience teaching youth in a variety of settings is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in public speaking, storytelling and conducting First Nations and Metis dance or singing, as well as valid first aid certification would be considered an asset.
- Experience leading/teaching large groups of youth in the outdoors.
- Familiar with Saskatchewan Education K-12 curriculum is an asset.
- Possess excellent writing skills.
- Creativity and high energy are a must. Self-starter and self-directed with initiative.
