Description

This position will assist Wildernook's weekly children's programs. This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position open to youth ages 15 to 30. This position includes additional training opportunities and is ideally suited to individuals pursuing education, early childcare or recreation related fields.

Required: Criminal record and vulnerable sector check, current first aid and CPR (or willingness to participate in first aid training), availability to work some weekday afternoons, ability to travel to outdoor locations throughout the city, and access to a personal cell phone. To be eligible for this Canada Summer Jobs funded position applicants must be eligible to work in Canada, be 15-30 years of age, and be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Support an engaging, child-centred learning environment. Adapt and respond to the needs of children in an ever changing environment. Support the basic needs of participants: snack, clothing, bathroom breaks. Participate in planning and debrief meetings Administer basic first aid as needed. Comply with all Wildernook Policies and Procedures. Be responsive to Covid-19 guidelines.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in Education, Early Childcare, other (e.g. working in a camp setting).
Experience working with children of a range of ages and abilities. Prepared and enthusiastic to be outdoors for extended periods of time in a variety of  weather conditions, including winter. Must be physically able to stand, sit and walk on uneven ground for several hours at a time and lift a small child (30-40lbs). Punctual and organized with strong communication skills.  
Prior experience in facilitating environmental or outdoor education would be an asset.
