The Rural Municipality of Great Bend No. 405 is currently looking for an independent contractor to perform the duties of PEST CONTROL OFFICER under The Pest Control Act to start January 1, 2022.
Applicants must:
1- Hold a valid Structural Applicator Licence (Pesticide Licence);
2- Possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers Licence; and
3- Supply their own vehicle.
The RM will appoint the successful applicant to serve as their Pest Control Officer (PCO). The PCO will provide the RM with those services as set out in the The Pest Control Act and any additional duties or responsibilities required by each municipality. The PCO will be expected to work as many hours per day as may be required to control or destroy any pests within each municipality. The PCO will be required to fill out and submit Rat Infestation Reports and PCO Inspections Reports. These are required as part of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Rat Control Program.
The current PCO is retiring. He will be able to assist the successful applicant to transition into the position. Other resources are available through SARM; two Rat Control Technical Advisors who provide ongoing mentoring and technical guidance to new and existing appointed PCOs and licensed pesticide applicators. They develop and deliver training and educational opportunities for PCOs each year.
