Description

Job Summary:  The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, rollers, graders, skidsteers, backhoe loaders and other related equipment) used in the construction and maintenance of roads and highways, as well as material handling activities. Promotes the safe use of this equipment and helps transport them to and from the job site.

Scope of Responsibilities:  

Promote the safe use of equipment, by performing daily pre and post operation inspections, preventive maintenance and reporting needed repairs/maintenance work to supervisor.
Operate heavy equipment to safely perform activities, such as; grading terrain, asphalt and chip seal application, hoisting large/heavy objects, digging trenches, excavating tree stumps, and sidewalks, sweeping and vacuuming streets, and maintaining the landscape as needed.
Transport equipment by safely loading equipment on trailers and driving to various job sites.
Maintain the asphalt surfaces including; street maintenance, pothole repairs, chip sealing and crack sealing.
Operate small equipment such as jump jacks, chainsaws, and weed eaters, as needed.
Temporarily acting in a higher capacity when needed by directing helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers, or temporary employees, as necessary.
Actively participate and promote safety related meetings which may include daily toolbox meetings and hazard assessment meetings.
Understand and comply with company policies, procedures and safety requirements, as well as the clients.
Other duties as assigned.
