-Looking for a Community Outreach Worker to work with families on a one-on-one basis in their own homes in order to teach them positive parenting and coping skills that will help build independence.
- You will work in a team environment and assist families to improve their understanding of child development and needs.
-Help families develop safety plans to ensure their children are well cared for when the parent cannot meet their needs.
-Work with various professionals and support agencies to assist the family to meet their daily living, health, financial and social needs, therefore reducing the stress on families.
-Teach families where to access community support networks, and to how to maintain those support networks once they are established.
-Help families to build independence by encouraging them in skills that allow them to work out their own solutions whenever possible.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field of study and 2 years of training and extensive experience in working with individuals who have been involved in a high risk lifestyle.
-Knowledge and understanding of the history of Aboriginal peoples and their socio-economic backgrounds.
-An understanding of the barriers to healthy living that can contribute to higher risk for child abuse and neglect.
-Must possess an understanding of positive and culturally appropriate approaches to parenting.
-Awareness of the services and resources available within the community of Saskatoon.
-Must be comfortable working with and providing intensive supports to families within their own homes and in the core neighborhoods of Saskatoon.
-Willing and available to work non-traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.
-Criminal and vulnerable persons record check.
-Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license and own a reliable vehicle.
-Must have a working knowledge of windows-based computer software programs.
