POSITION ROLE:
Incumbents are responsible for negotiating collective bargaining agreements and providing advice and technical assistance to members. Positions have both an advocacy and a legal function.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Researching and presenting grievances, arbitrations and Labour Relation Board cases;
Provide mediation and harassment counselling;
Provide advice to members regarding labour relations, human resources, succession planning and organizational development
Responsible for the day to day interpretation of collective agreements and a variety of legal statutes;
Evaluate the operation of collective bargaining agreements and recommend agreement changes to the elected Union leadership;
Provide strategic advice to members and implement as required, strategies to achieve excellent collective bargaining agreements;
Settle disputes, provide advice on grievances, conciliation, mediation, arbitrations, harassment, and long term disability issues;
Provide process assistance and support to members involved in Workers Compensation, Employment Insurance, O.H. and S, LTD appeals and arbitrations;
Establish and maintain functional relationships with employer representatives, lawyers, human resource/industrial relations offices at all levels, senior staff, members and others as required;
Analyze labour legislation, policies, collective agreements and labour trends

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
A university degree in the social services, law or industrial relations, combined with extensive experience as an advocate and/or elected leader, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
A thorough understanding of the Unions legal framework and environment including statutes such as the Human Rights Code, Saskatchewan Employment Act and Workers Compensation;
Collective bargaining, technical and interpretation skills are required
