Job Description: The Lactation Consultant integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct inpatient and outpatient care, clinical co-ordination, clinical problem solving, education and research for a defined group of patients and/or programs. The incumbent will provide leadership that is visible, pro-active, and promotes the delivery of patient care through the application of practice standards.  In consultation with the Manager of Nursing, the individual is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating educational activities for clients, families and health professionals in the area of human lactation.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA)
CPR certification
Experience
EXPERIENCE:
Requires a minimum of five years nursing experience in clinical area.  
Previous experience in nursing education is desirable.

SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Demonstrates knowledge, skills and judgement in the areas of program planning, development, quality assurance and evaluation.
Demonstrates teaching/counselling skills, communication skills and principles of adult learning.
Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns with other health professionals.
Demonstrates commitment to self-development through continuing education programs and informal learning opportunities.
