The Saw Operator sets up and operates saws to cut metal according to specifications.

Education/Experience

Grade 12
Experience in a factory environment an asset

Accountabilities

Daily PM of machines including pre-shift checklist
Sets controls to adjust speed, feed rate, and blade tensions
Verifies dimensions of finished workpiece, using measuring devices
Set up and operate metal-sawing machines to cut metal stock to dimensions: Reads job order for specifications, for example material, type, and size of stock, and dimensions to be cut
Obtains and transfers stock to machine, manually or with PME. Installs saw blade  and sets blade tension and cutting speed for specified operation
Sets stops and guides to control dimension of cut
Starts machine and observes operation
Measures work for conformance to specifications, using tape and anglefinder
Marks identifying data on workpiece
Replaces defective cutting blade or wheel, using handtools
Loads/unloads laser parts on blaster tray
Move crates/tubes with lift truck
Keeps parts organized
Keeps work area clean
Sets controls on blaster for specific operations
Maintains amount of shot in blaster
Works together with other technicians to ensure satisfactory completions of tasks
