The IT Specialist, under the supervision of the Director and/or Branch Supervisor, is responsible for all aspects of Enterprise IT as well as assisting in the technical side of promoting Parkland Regional Librarys digital presence.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Set up, maintain and ensure proper function of HQ and Branch computers, installed software, servers, communication services, Ethernet, TCP/IP backbone and connections
Provide advanced troubleshooting for the Librarys technologies, and access authentication management
Liaison with service providers
Submit yearly budget requirements for hardware and software purchases; Responsible for all IT licensing agreements.
Maintain awareness of current and potential future IT issues, report findings and recommendations
Train staff in computer and technology use
Travel to branches as required
Other duties as required
Required Qualification:
Post-secondary education in IT field.
Current or recent job-related work experience
Knowledge of and experience in Drupal, Microsoft products, TCP/IP Networking
Ability and interest in continuous learning
Ability to apply critical analysis to situations and procedures
Ability to solve complex problems within job responsibility
Anticipates problems and reports with suggested solutions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Effective communication and customer service skills; organizational skills, flexibility
Ability to meet a variety of deadlines and avoid scheduling conflicts
Ability to lift 35 pounds / 15.87 kg
Valid drivers license
Criminal records check including vulnerable sector check required
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of library procedures and routines
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems remotely
Ability to train users with a variety of backgrounds in technology
Specific Skills
- Communicate electronically and in person with computer users experiencing difficulties to determine and document problems experienced
- Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions
- Provide advice and training to users in response to identified difficulties
