Description

The role of the inclusion coordinator is primarily to support the holistic development in the children in our care through some of the following duties and responsibilities:

documenting and observations
assessment through checklists (ASQ)
mentoring/coaching staff (ie. child guidance strategies, speech and language strategies, implementing inclusive practices in program planning etc)
investigating concerns regarding delays
providing parent with information
connecting with supports through SLP services and BSC gathering progress and challenges with grant children to discuss at monthly meetings
implementing program plans provided and collaborating with staff to do so
deciding grants (including if a child requires an EA), writing impact assessments, and setting up and attending grant meetings
providing room with support especially during transitions  namely lunch and nap, afternoon wake-up (transition room)
communicating re: assessment dates, grant dates, plans that are currently happening, progress, and any further supports that could be utilized (KCC, KidsFirst)
keeping track of hearing screenings, assessments, grant renewals
communicating with EAs and keeping track of daily records of the children on EA and Individual Inclusion Grants
using boardmaker to create schedules, communication cards, social stories, finding resource such as books and materials to support children as issues arise
implementing/modeling teacher talk strategies
keeping detailed reports and binders for required information
knowledge about child development including child sexual development

The inclusion coordinator should be knowledgeable in the effects of neglect, poverty, substance abuse, and trauma on development of the child and its impact on the family; because of the clientele our Centre serves, it is imperative the inclusion coordinator be open and support our families in a bias-free manner.
